SHS Group modernises rail logistics with new software solution

zedas®cargo digitises shunting and line traffic at Saar Rail GmbH

Saar Rail GmbH, a subsidiary of SHS – Stahl-Holding-Saar GmbH & Co. KGaA (SHS), is introducing the zedas®cargo Shunting and Long Haul software solutions. With the new solution, Saar Rail is modernising its rail logistics processes and laying the foundation for greater efficiency, safety and sustainability. In future, shunting operations at the Dillingen, Völklingen, Burbach and Neunkirchen sites, as well as route traffic between the sites, will be digitally mapped using the standard software.

As the central logistics subsidiary of the SHS Group, Saar Rail is responsible for the transport of raw materials and finished products – both on the factory premises and between the sites. This makes rail logistics a central link in the production chain of the world's leading special steel manufacturer. The existing systems were increasingly reaching their limits: rising demands in shunting and line traffic, compliance with new regulatory requirements by 2026, and the need to work flexibly with different rail transport companies in the future. By opting for new rail logistics software, Saar Rail is ensuring that day-to-day business is handled efficiently and securely, while at the same time providing the necessary flexibility to respond quickly to changes.

Future with zedas®cargo

Saar Rail has chosen zedas®cargo Shunting and Long Haul to digitally map all rail logistics processes. In future, the software will be used to plan, control and document shunting operations within the sites and line haulage between the plants. With the introduction of the ZEDAS product suite, Saar Rail is pursuing an integrated approach for multiple locations. In future, mobile applications will facilitate work in shunting operations. The Rail Hub enables the close integration of loading point processes and standardised TAF TSI interfaces, which ensures compliance with regulatory requirements in line transport.
