Port of Duisburg selects zedas®cargo

26.10.2010

At the confluence of Rhine and Ruhr, the port of Duisburg is a central European "logistic hub" within the largest European industrial conurbation. It belongs to the biggest global inland ports and is considered as the most important Hinterland hub of the ARA seaports.

As a 100% subsidiary of Port of Duisburg AG, duisport rail connects about 200 km of rail network with various port areas and the logistics logport, ensuring an optimal connection between the terminals and customers.

For enhanced support of employees during complex railway logistics processes - whether in container traffic, bulk cargo or chemicals – duisport rail chooses the field proven solution zedas®cargo and the specific railway know-how of the PC-Soft GmbH. With the implementation of the specific railway software, identified improvements in planning, execution of shunting movements and train services as well as for cost controlling issues are gone on consistently.

The first project step consists of the rollout of software modules for planning, recording and graphic representation of so-called track events, such as incoming trains, turnarounds, operational handling, rentals and the appropriated personnel. Different perspectives, e.g. Gantt charts, clearly visualize all relevant information for targeted planning and support the identification of alternatives for unplanned changes.

In a second step specialised standard modules for control, monitoring and accounting of operational business processes in the marshalling yard and rail traffic are added. An important element is the implementation of a mobile handheld solution, which supports locomotive drivers and shunting personnel comprehensively during their operational tasks.

The integrated module “Fleet Management” monitors the time limits of locomotives and wagons, documents damages and provides the functionality to collect important mileage data. In addition, various interfaces to different railway companies and financial accounting systems are installed. With the Port of Duisburg AG, we welcome another major customer to the group of zedas®cargo users.
