PC-Soft in the fast lane with zedas®

02.06.2007

PC-Soft is again on track for success with its zedas® product. Only a few weeks after receiving an order from Bayer Industry Services, another renowned customer has been gained in the shape of the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA).

For around 150 years, the Free Hanseatic city of Hamburg has had, with the Hamburg Port Authority, a technically and economically highly qualified harbour administration that enjoys a high reputation internationally. As the central point of contact, it counts the strategic organisation and further development of the Hamburg harbour as core activities. The harbour railway is part of HPA and has the status of a public railway infrastructure company. It manages a rail network of approximately 350 kilometres in length with around 40 points units, used by around 40 national and international railway companies.

HPA's obligations include provision to users of a railway infrastructure that is non-discriminatory, reliable and always in a safe operating condition. This requires, among other aspects, regular inspection and maintenance of the systems in accordance with legal requirements. These measures also include the keeping of the necessary data or documents for exact proofing purposes should the Authorities responsible require this. Provision of the railway infrastructure - with the premise that material is used in optimal fashion - is assuming more of a key role, particularly as usage is expected to increase.

The main decision criteria in favour of zedas®asset included:

  •     Short project run time due to sector-specific standard solution
  •     Interface for import of inspection data
  •     Graphical representation of network properties, states and history
  •     Warranty management within extensive (rail) networks
  •     Interface to the leading SAP® system

The introduction of zedas®asset will in future achieve a clear improvement in working efficiency, clarity, planning safety and cost control. In addition, the Hamburg Port Authority will have at its disposal an excellent instrument to reliably provide legally-required information on the current technical state of the system to the Railway Supervision Authority.
