MIBRAG decides on zedas®cargo

Mining company opts to use the latest software to support processes in rail logistics and rail forwarding

The modern, high technology mining company Mitteldeutsche Braunkohlengesellschaft mbH (MIBRAG) is using zedas®cargo. The core business of the company includes the extraction and sale of raw lignite, electricity production, and the production of finishing products. In total, MIBRAG mines around 20 million tonnes of lignite in opencast mines per year, which it supplies to power stations. The transportation of the raw lignite to the customers is largely completed by rail. In the future, the management of the associated logistics processes is to be supported by the zedas®cargo product from PC-Soft. The focus is on providing comprehensive IT support to the rail forwarding by MIBRAG.

Coal-rail logistics
From now on, the standard software for the management of rail logistics processes is supporting the operational sequences, from the incoming wagons, to the loading, to the outgoing wagons.

The solution's key functions include:

• the order-related completion of the delivery processes,
• the monitoring and documentation of the internal wagon journeys to and from the loading,
• as well as the implementation of interfaces with external partners and to differing peripheral systems.

Improving the internal and external flows of information is a particular goal of the project. Appropriate data integration interfaces, from the advance notification of trains from different rail transport firms (EDI, XML, email) to the wagon recognition, to the coal mixing and storage location system, as well as the SAP system, help to minimise the manual sequences. In the future, the integrated reporting system will enable the flexible creation of a wide range of different customer specific reports, evaluations and statistics on the entire process. The project is set to start soon and will be implemented over the course of this year.

We are pleased to have been able to win over the Mitteldeutsche Braunkohlengesellschaft mbH as another important customer for zedas®cargo. Along with Vattenfall Europe Mining and RWE Power they are our third major customer in the area of lignite mining.
